RTVE provides extensive virtual reality coverage for Olympics
With the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio about to begin, Spanish pubcaster RTVE launched ‘Vive Río: Heroínas’ on July 20th, a virtual reality app that provides viewers with a 360° experience of how some of the country’s best female athletes train. The app is available for iOS and Android devices, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR, and at a dedicated website. ‘Vive Río: Heroínas’ is a collaboration of the RTVE Lab and inMediaStudio.

The project includes five 360° experiences that let viewers immerse themselves into the training for Rio 2016. The female athletes featured in the VR project are the Spanish rhythmic gymnastics team, the two synchronized swimmers Ona Carbonell and Gemma Mengual, canoeist Maialen Chourraut, the women’s rugby sevens team, and equestrian Beatriz Ferrer-Salat. The 360° videos are each 3-4 minutes in length.
